Microsoft is scheduled to release Windows Phone 7 on October 11, 2010. Devices running Windows Phone 7 may be available for purchase as early as the end of October. Unfortunately, one may assume that Windows Phone 7 is the next release of Windows Mobile (since Windows Mobile is currently at version 6). However, Windows Phone 7 has as much in common with Windows Mobile as the iPhone or Android or Blackberry does. In other words, NO current Windows Mobile software will work on Windows Phone 7. Pocket Genealogist would need to be totally rewritten in order to work on Windows Phone 7. At this time we have no plans to support Windows Phone 7 although we will continue to monitor the progress of WP7. In the meantime, Microsoft has indicated that they will be continuing with Windows Mobile along with Windows Phone although the general availability of Windows Mobile devices is unknown at this point. Northern Hills Software is committed to supporting Windows Mobile for the indefinite future. You may find that there are good bargains to be had on Windows Mobile devices just prior to the release of Windows Phone 7 if you wish to get more current on your hardware and Windows Mobile version.
